With CMJ approaching, two of my favorite new bands, ASTR and GEMS are both gaining attention and playing multiple shows.  Expect them to be some of the most sought after.  In honor of that I’ve included GEMS‘ new single and dream pop perfection, Medusa, and ASTR’s nouveau pop R U With Me.   Continue reading

This week’s playlist reflects that strange pleasurable nostalgia that accompanies amazing Fall weather.  Pawws debuts a new track and it’s the nail on the coffin for me (as in, I’m hers).  Lyrically it’s as gorgeous as the other two tracks, but instrumentally she’s taken her music to a new level by simplifying it.   premiers a ballad, also making her a top contender for favorite new artist; it successfully establishes her versatility and talent.  Flicker from Shivum Sharma is heart breakingly beautiful.  I have to apologize for including such a slow song, but in its nuances and simple melodies a universally emotive track rises (give it a chance).  Mood change- Jessica Agombar delivers a hot ass summer dance track! Get down to that.

Finally the last three songs are covers:  Say Lou Lou covers Tame Impala, ASTR covers Drake, and Chvrches cover Whitney Houston.  It’s obvious I’m a big Chvrches fan, and It’s Not Right But It’s Okay is one of my all time favorite songs.  That being said, I love the instrumentation for the track, but Lauren’s vocals are disappointing…  Especially when she sings, “You were making a fool out of me”.  What was Whitney’s money making moment is Lauren’s last call.

Anyway, enjoy 🙂

Brooklyn Nouveau Pop duo ASTR covers Drake

ASTR has already proven they know how to do edgy pop music, and it’s reaching all the way to pockets of cool across the pond.  Imagine, this is what hip parisians listen to when they say ‘pop’, meanwhile they’re a continuation of the revitilzation of Pop music in Brooklyn itself.  It’s so sexy; their style, their attitude, it all screams ‘this is 2013!”.  Well now they’ve gone mainstream as they record their cover of Drake’s Hold On We’re Going Home after performing it at their live shows opening for Kate Boy.  I really dig it, check it out:

Here are some of my favorite tracks from what’s been floating around the internet this week.  Astr really grabbed my attention as a brand new pop duo from Brooklyn who are serving post-modern pop in a delicious and dirty fashion. Continue reading
