On Rotation – March

March Rotation

There are moments of teasing cool gusts of wind, or the chirping of a bird outside your window, that remind you of the beauty that warmth brings into the world (before then remembering the constant and unbearable weight of summer heat).  This playlist is in reverence of the blooming of new things, and with new releases from tons of new artists as well as some career making moments from our old favorites, what better time than now for Spring to harken our musical musings?

The last few days have me feeling spring fever so hard, with the beautiful tease of an evening with the windows open, and the ludicrous outfits of women who took it too far, I couldn’t help but feel that attitude reflected in some of my favorite releases and finds this week.  Enjoy an array of blossoming artists.

19 year old New Zealander Mzwétwo released his debut EP last week, and to my own surprise I find myself sharing a hip-hop release, a genre that lies on the edges of my interests.  Perhaps it’s the opening track of the EP, I’d Go Back on my Heart, with its R&B backbone and blood curdling bass that hooked me.  Unfortunately for my speakers, as the bass got heavier, and the tracks got hoppier, I became more and more entranced.  Even more entrancing is his youth, something that could go unnoticed amidst his world weary lyricism and mature sonic expression.  This is a fantastic EP, place it up there with Jungle’s The Heat EP and don’t take it down.

UK electro-soul duo Jungle is so fucking fresh that even their website gives me #FOMO.  Like their online personality, their music is a sonic assault of cool and conglomeration of hip, all presented in a flush and chic manner. Continue reading

There have been some exciting releases this week.  Finally, Phantogram is here with a new single and it’s promising (hopefully we’ll get a solid follow up to their debut).  Otherwise, on this playlist there are some rising artists releasing great new songs: Sohn, Banks, and Laura Welsh to name a few.  Enjoy,
