Introducing: Dromes

I’m already a fan of florida based X priest X, and now producer Chandler Strang is putting out some solo work amidst remixes.  His track Speechless is a delectable synth-pop slice, incorporating a more modern sound than his approach with Madeline Priest.  A little Toro y Moi meets Millionyoung, the clear production and dreamy synth accents are like an escape and an accent for a sunny winter day. His production chops are undeniable- he has an ear for modern sounds that aren’t devoid of feeling, capable of producing something you can dance to or smoke to.  Personally looking forward to what else sunny Florida has to offer (did anyone ever thing there would be a pocket of indie pop exploding there?).

Digits: Say Goodbye

saygoodbye

Digits has been one of my top played artists for the past year and a half.  There’s something about his ability to create minimalist electro-pop-r&b that could soundtrack ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ or a party on a subway track that is difficult to put aside (refer to my previous post on Digits back in March).

Banks Premiers “This Is What It Feels Like” Video

Screen shot 2013-09-28 at 4.13.46 PM

Wow.  Banks is devastatingly beautiful in the video for This Is What It Feels Like.  We’ve all been aware of her for some time now, what with her ever relevant RnB influenced gloomy electro-pop and marketable image, but it feels like this is her breakout hit.  The beat is sick’ning, and the chorus inevitably on repeat in your brain.  Check out her video here:

Weekly Digest #12

weekly12

This week’s playlist is full of amazing (mostly feminine) pop tracks.  The debut single from Vaults, Cry No More, is making its dutiful rounds about the internet, full of positive responses despite their a-typical elusive persona.  San Mei debuts an amazing pop track, Brighter, Mons Montis brings us some amazing electro-pop on Swept, and Frankie Rose continues teasing us of her promising debut with the track Street of Dreams (so looking forward to this album).  Otherwise featured is a track that’s not on Postiljonen‘s amazing album SkyerWhen all the Wild Things Die, Alicia Eris’ awesome old school RnB styles are present in her second single, I Moved on, and there are some shout outs to the boys with tracks from Ghosts and Sunboy, two promising pop acts, and the dreamy RnB outfit Oceaán.  I’m super excited about this playlist, I hope it does something for you all too.

XOXO.

Industrial 80s Electro-Pop

Jonathan Bates revels in his debut, delivered under the moniker Big Black Delta, as a symbolic and literal release from the boundaries of expectations and group dynamics. As a solo artist, Bates’ newfound sense of freedom has allowed him to create something enormous- an electro-rock pop industrial opera full of tales of tainted romance. Continue reading

Shimmery Existential Pop

young-galaxy-ultramarine

After three LPs, Young Galaxy gives us their magnum opus, Ultramarine. Initially deceptive with a sonically upbeat and positively dreamy disposition, it dramatically unravels. Beyond the Balearic Pop influenced production an emotional underbelly is revealed, exposed through shimmery existential songs dripping in nostalgia. Continue reading

Pop Savant

Loveskills, NYC based Richard Spitzer, has given us his debut, Multiplicity, a record to play the house dooooown.  While the lead single (and today’s song of the day), Cover Me, is a throwback to 80s synth laden pop, the record delves into hip-hop, trap, dance, and post-dub.  Spitzer has masterfully incorporated these edgier aspects into a dreamy, dance-able electro-pop record.
